Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
